All the characters in the book are stereotypically male or female. It is also the only childrens picture book that features an openly transgender protagonist, and does so with both sensitivity and celebration. If I had read it growing up, I might have felt better about my dress-wearing habit. He dreams of dresses, so is referred to as she throughout the book. The tale of Bailey's quest for the dresses of her dreams is heartbreaking. This book is about a little boy called Bailey. Her parents won't help her make any dresses because she is a boy.
